The national living wage will increase to £11.44 per hour

Following the chancellor's announcement that the national living wage would rise to £11.44 an hour, nearly 3 million low-paid workers will see an increase in pay of nearly 10% in the spring of 2019. Full-time workers' pay would increase by £1,800 annually, according to Jeremy Hunt, following a move that the Low Pay Commission (LPC) declared fulfilled the Conservative goal to abolish poverty pay in the UK in 2019. By announcing the largest-ever cash increase in the low pay floor, the chancellor fully embraced the proposal of the LPC, the body established to advise governments on the amount of the national legal minimum wage. The rise in price from £10.42 to £11.44 is occurring in the midst of a crisis caused by rising living expenses, with inflation reaching its highest point in forty years at 11.1%.
