The national living wage will increase to £11.44 per hour

Following the chancellor's announcement that the national living wage would rise to £11.44 an hour, nearly 3 million low-paid workers will see an increase in pay of nearly 10% in the spring of 2019.

Full-time workers' pay would increase by £1,800 annually, according to Jeremy Hunt, following a move that the Low Pay Commission (LPC) declared fulfilled the Conservative goal to abolish poverty pay in the UK in 2019.

By announcing the largest-ever cash increase in the low pay floor, the chancellor fully embraced the proposal of the LPC, the body established to advise governments on the amount of the national legal minimum wage.

The rise in price from £10.42 to £11.44 is occurring in the midst of a crisis caused by rising living expenses, with inflation reaching its highest point in forty years at 11.1%.

The age cutoff from 23 to 21 will also increase eligibility for the national living wage (NLW).

A twenty-one-year-old will receive a 12.4% raise from £10.18 this year to £11.44 next year, which equates to over £2,300 for a full-time worker, according to the Treasury.

The national minimum wage  for young workers will also be increased, with workers aged  18 to 20 receiving an increase of £1.

The Prime Minister said: “Next April, all full-time workers paid the National Living Wage will receive a pay rise of more than £1,800 a year, which will help reduce the Wages will end and so will our manifesto promise.

'A national living wage will help halve the number of low-wage workers since 2010 and ensure that work is always paid for.

The NLW was introduced in 2016 and currently sets a minimum hourly wage for people aged 23 and over.

The Treasury said the new tax rate would apply to 21- and 22-year-olds and meant the government's target of raising NLW to two-thirds of average income by 2024 had been achieved.

The Ministry of Economy and Trade estimates that 2.

7 million workers will directly benefit from the increase.

Brian Sanderson, Chairman of the  Low Pay Commission, said:  ``These efforts over the life of the NLW will deliver over £9,000 a year to  full-time workers without increasing unemployment.

'' ``As the economy faces a series of unprecedented challenges, This has not been easy for employers because of the  challenges faced in recent years.

“The high level of political and economic uncertainty makes assessing and forecasting economic development, and thus our task, extremely difficult.

It is a credit to the other committee members that we have continued to build consensus.

TUC general secretary Paul Nowak welcomed the increase, saying: ``This rate has been recommended by the Low Pay Commission.

'' ``This will ensure that employees and employers  But Mr Nowak called for an increase to £15 "as soon as possible".

This is a template for better policy-making.

" , said that most wage packages have declined in real terms over the past decade because they have not kept pace with inflation.
